How to Prepare

A comprehensive preparation strategy covering both general and technical subjects is essential to succeed.

  1. Master Your Domain: The discipline-related section carries the highest weightage in all tests. Thoroughly revise your diploma/degree syllabus. For Draftsman posts, extensive practice on CAD software (like AutoCAD, Tribon, CADMATIC) is crucial for the practical test.
  2. Prepare for General Aptitude: The general section includes GK, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and English. Although the weightage is less, these marks can be a deciding factor. Practice from standard competitive exam books.
  3. Practice Descriptive Writing: For JTA and other posts, the descriptive test is important. Practice writing clear and concise answers to technical questions. Your ability to explain concepts will be tested.
  4. Time Management: Practice with timed online mock tests to improve your speed and accuracy, especially for the objective tests. Since there is no negative marking, your goal should be to attempt all questions.

Best Books for Preparation

Here are some recommended resources for your preparation:

  • For Technical/Discipline Subjects: Standard diploma-level textbooks for your specific engineering branch are the best resources. Objective question books for JE/AE level exams (e.g., by R.S. Khurmi, J.B. Gupta) can be very helpful for practice.
  • For General Aptitude & Reasoning: "Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Examinations" by R.S. Aggarwal and "A Modern Approach to Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning" by R.S. Aggarwal.
  • For General English: "Objective General English" by S.P. Bakshi.
  • For General Knowledge: "Lucent's General Knowledge".
